What’s happening in Kent

Kent is where England meets the Channel: the M20 and A20 run to the Port of Dover and the Channel Tunnel at Folkestone, the M2 and A2 serve Medway and north Kent, and the Dartford Crossing takes M25 traffic over the Thames. When the ports are busy, Operation Brock on the M20 and the Dover TAP on the A20 can hold lorries - check the Operation Brock card and the live list below before you set off.

The blue line is the Kent boundary (Office for National Statistics, Open Government Licence v3.0; contains OS data © Crown copyright and database right 2019).

Operation Brock on the M20

At busy times or during cross-Channel disruption, port-bound lorries are held on the coastbound M20 and other traffic uses a contraflow between J8 (Maidstone) and J9 (Ashford).

Dover TAP on the A20

When the Port of Dover is busy, the Dover TAP holds port-bound lorries in a queue on the A20 approaching Dover. Expect slow traffic on the A20 into Dover while it is in use.
